The Empress is a reproduction of an original graphite drawing on paper, depicting a powerful female figure standing with her back toward the viewer, a cloth draped effortlessly over her shoulder.
There is a quiet confidence in her stance. While we never see her face, her presence feels unmistakable—strong, self-assured, and commanding. When I drew her, I was in awe of the woman she became on the page. I remember thinking, I would follow her to war.
A delicate halo surrounds her head, added as a reflection of how I saw her while creating the piece. To me, she needed one. It became a way of honouring the strength, presence, and almost larger-than-life quality I felt in her.
The Empress is ultimately a celebration of feminine strength and the feeling of encountering someone whose presence makes you stand a little taller.
